Date: Thu, 15 Sep 2005 10:03:28 -0400 Subject: Houston starts Oral History Project on Katrina

The recently inaugurated "Oral History of Houston Project" in the Center for
Public History would like to announce its plans to initiate a project to
help preserve the history of Houston's Response to Katrina. We are
beginning with a three-pronged effort:

1. Complete oral history interviews with individuals involved in the
administrative response to this disaster here in Houston. We hope that such
interviews could be useful in the future if our region is faced with another
such tragedy.

2. Complete oral history interviews with individuals involved in the
private and religious response. The Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston
has been central in coordinating with area churches and synagogues in
helping the evacuees.

3. Complete oral history interviews with the news cameramen who were
witness to the disaster, but whose stories often remain behind the scenes
and untold.

We are looking for volunteer interviewers...oral history training and
equipment will be provided. We are also working to compile a list of
possible interviewees and encourage anyone with suggestions or further
questions to contact us.
