GEM Consortium Meeting 2005
SAVE THE DATES: March 17th & 18th, 2005!
Please plan on attending the 2005 GEM Governance Board & Consortium
Meeting, to be held in Alexandria, Virginia, on
Thurs., March 17th - Fri., March 18th!
The 2005 GEM Governance Board & Consortium Meeting preliminary agenda,
registration, accommodations, and contact information will soon be
available at www.thegateway.org.
There is no registration fee. Travel expenses, including transportation,
hotels, and meals not mentioned, are the responsibility of the attendees.
Highlights include:
GEM for Newcomers: a pre-meeting session for new Consortium members or
first-time attendees of the meeting, providing an overview of the history
of the project. New this year, technical information will be provided on
generating GEM metadata so that your resources can be found by users of
The Gateway.
New Services:
-Consortium Member News: Information on how Consortium members can submit
announcements of new resources, products, and press releases for
publication on The Gateway home page.
-Assessment service: GEM will be launching a new service whereby highly
qualified teachers will find the best resources in The Gateway and make
authoritative comments.
-Upcoming new services: Bookmarking, Virtual Collections, Virtual
Standards Correlations.
Overview of technical capabilities of the new Gateway, with discussion of
possible new services for Gateway users and Consortium members.
Achievement Standards Network. A web-based collection of K-12 learning and
achievement standards and student performance objectives.
Evaluation: Information regarding a cross-system, inter-subject study to
determine the comparative value and effectiveness of the design and use of
GEM metadata and the new Gateway by end-users in resource discovery.
Overview and Status Report: Accomplishments of the past year.
