Moving Target: The Information Security Professional
http://tinyurl.com/ycu5x8
Brian Haddock, Patricia Myers and Marjan Rajabi started their careers in
very different places: Haddock repossessed cars, Myers worked in
banking, and Rajabi was an electrical engineer. Now, however, they share
a common link: Theyre all information security professionals.
Such a diversity of backgrounds might seem odd, but this emerging field
is attracting a variety of workers who are drawing on their prior
business experience whatever it might be to develop the kind of
technological safeguards and corporate policies that keep companies
information assets secure.

Word that attackers are exploiting an unpatched flaw in the program's
file format. A security research firm said the attacks will likely
remain limited.
If history is any indicator, Microsoft will not patch the Word
vulnerability in December. The company took 26 days to patch the May
flaw, for instance, 118 days to fix a similar Excel format bug, and 27
to patch PowerPoint.

Australians more afraid of hackers than terrorists
http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/7819/53/
Fear of identity theft and credit card fraud outweighs fear of terrorism
amongst Australians, according to a quarterly security survey.
While Australians are more relaxed and comfortable than they were three
months ago, more than half are still "extremely or very concerned" about
the security of their personal information, according to the December
Unisys Security Index - a national survey of some 1200 Australians
conducted by Newspoll on behalf of Unisys.
