SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 7 -- To keep up with the growing strains put on the
Internet by both legitimate users and online attackers, a Silicon Valley
company is undertaking a $100 million expansion of a crucial part of the
system that speeds Web users to their destinations.
The company, VeriSign, is a leader in networking infrastructure and
manages registration for the .com and .net Internet domains. It is among
the stewards of an international system of computer servers running
programs that translate domain names like google.com or wikipedia.org
into numeric addresses.

NATO, DOD to sign cybersecurity pact

San Francisco -- The Defense Department is on the verge of signing an
agreement to share incident information with the North Atlantic Treaty
Organizations Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), said Mark Hall,
director, DOD International Information Assurance Program and co-chair
of the National Cyber Response Coordination Group (NCRCG).
The agreement will involve the sharing of incident and threat
information, Hall said today. There are 26 NATO countries and the
organizations CERT center is connected to all of those nations networks,
he also said.

give every child in the developing world a computer of his own, dazzled
fans with the unveiling of its little green "$100 laptop" in November
2005. Now it's impressing hard-bitten security geeks with a plan to lock
down the hundreds of millions of educational machines against spyware
and computer intruders.

Stonehenge Settlement Found: Builders' Homes, "Cult Houses"

village has been unearthed near Stonehenge in southern England."
The settlement is believed to be housing for the builders.

ISP TRACKING LEGISLATION REINTRODUCED IN CONGRESS

All Internet service providers would have to keep track of what their
customers are doing online to aid police in future investigations
under legislation introduced Tuesday as part of a Republican "law and
order agenda." Employees of any Internet provider who fail to store
that information will face fines and prison terms of up to one year,
the bill says. The U.S. Justice Department could order the companies
to store those records forever.
