Make vendors liable for bad code - Make Code Safer

the ultimate economic responsibility for better software should be moved
directly to software makers, who can directly influence the creation of
more secure applications, he said. "If there is liability, we'll pay more
[for software], but at least we'll get better software out of it and things
will improve," Schneier said.
A penalty system will ultimately result in a more secure global IT system
through better-built and better-maintained products. "That's what I want
to affect, and liabilities have a way of doing that," Schneier said.

Do all companies need to comply with these rules?
ISO 27001 is not required by law or a regulation; it is voluntary.
However, as information technology governance is increasingly recognized
as a specific area for board and corporate attention, international
standards related to information security have become one of the
cornerstones of an effective IT governance framework. According to a
November 2005 Forrester Research report, "Businesses Can Now Get an ISO
Security Certification," ISO 27001 is being used by organizations to
validate the security of a business partner, with some global
organizations even requiring it before doing business with a company.

Hack lets intruders sneak into home routers
http://tinyurl.com/39vltb
Chang the default password on your home router.
Attackers could change the configuration of home routers using
JavaScript code, security researchers at Indiana University and Symantec
have discovered.
The researchers found that it is possible to change the DNS, or Domain
Name System, settings of a router if the owner uses a connected PC to
view a Web page with the JavaScript code. This DNS change lets the
attacker divert all the Net traffic going through the router.
"I have been able to get this to work on Linksys, D-Link and Netgear
routers," Symantec researcher Zulfikar Ramzan said. "You can create one
Web site that is able to attack all routers. My feeling is that it is
just a matter of time before phishers start using this."
