Hi Everyone.
.
I have been a happy member of this forum for many years now and wanted
to share a non-work related dream come true.
.
I recently went through a life changing experience in helping my best
friend (and recent ex-boyfriend) move his parents from Wisconsin to
Washington State. His mother had Alzheimer's and his father had end
stage metastasized lung cancer. We crossed teh country in four days and
almost didn't make it. His father did not have the six months his
doctors thought he had. We ended up living in an ALF with them for a
short time while we struggled to make a very difficult situation work.
.
I have always wanted to be a writer and felt I was supposed to write
about this situation. I am hopeful that it will give people the chance
to consider what they might do when faced with situations that are
becoming all too common: becoming a guardian to your parents with little
to no warning, dealing with Alzheimer's, trying to create a support
network when families are spread out across the country, finding out who
your friends are when it really counts, and trying to do the right thing
even when it is breaking your heart to do so.

My book is called Miles from Home: A true story of the choices that define
us It is published as Colleen Lanier and is listed on Amazon, B&N and
