. INDOOR GARDENING: Brighten Your Home with Plants Brighten Your Home with Plants Published Saturday September 25th, 2010 By JENNIFER DEMPSEY TIMES & TRANSCRIPT http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com/homegarden/article/1232719 You don't need a green thumb to grow healthy indoor plants. In order for them to survive and thrive, all you have to do is provide them with three basic necessities including light, nutrients and water.
When it comes to choosing hardy and easily maintained indoor plants this winter, Lighthouse Lane Flowers owner Kim Belliveau says there are many different varieties from which to choose these days including the peace lily which continues to be one of the biggest sellers at her Shediac flower store. Boasting beautiful white lilies and deeply veined green leaves, it flowers almost continuously for at least half of the year.
"It's one of the biggest sellers for decorating the home," adds Kim who has been in the retail flower business for 16 years.
The fig tree is also a popular choice. Characterized by its tall stem and bushy top, fig trees come in a variety of different colours including solid green. Although a popular decoration in many New Brunswick homes, Kim warns that the Fig Tree can be messy because of its tendency to lose its leaves when moved.
The rubber plant is a perfect choice for busy homeowners because it doesn't require a lot of care.
