In the past few years, I have become very interested in POGIL
activities. I have successfully used a number of the lessons from
www.pogil.org for my first year courses, and I have also used some of the
college level POGIL activities from the website and the Moog and Farrell
book with my AP courses. Some of the currently available activities,
however, weren't necessarily ideal matches for what my AP students need.
One of my personal goals for the upcoming year is to develop or adapt some
POGIL lessons that are suitable for AP Chem.
Very recently, I also learned about an approach called "Layered Curriculum"
(see http://www.help4teachers.com/ for more information) and I hope, over
the summer, to develop a couple of units for my non-honors first year
course. I have no experience with layered curriculum, but it is
potentially interesting and I would like to try it out.
Is there anyone in the area who would be interested in collaborating on
either of these with me this summer? I teach in Harvard, MA and live not
far from 495. I"m going to pursue these regardless, but I thought it would
be more fun and more fruitful to work with a group of like minded fellow
teachers! Please contact me off-list at vvmidey@xxxxxxxxxxx or at my
school email account, kvanderveen@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
