Dear Chemistry Teacher:
My name is Keith Donaldson. I am the principal investigator for
MolySym. MolySym is a federally funded, MIT start-up, located in
Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are developing a hyper molecular
modeling kit, which blends aspects of tangible models, simulations,
and interactive media, thereby dynamically linking multiple molecular
representations. It provides a seamless interface between the
physical molecular representation in one's hand with computer
generated molecular models. We believe hyper molecular modeling or
"Hypermodeling" will enable students in high school and college
classrooms to build a deep understanding of molecular structure and
interaction from a quantum mechanical perspective. But to fully
realize the potential of hyper molecular modeling, we need your help.
We are calling on chemistry teachers to share their views on models
and modeling in learning chemistry.
A common obstacle for chemistry teachers is getting students to really
understand what is happening at the molecular level. Students are
often unable to visualize molecules readily, and become frustrated and
confused with the subject matter. With your help we can change this.
We would appreciate it if you would complete and send the survey now
by clicking on the link below. The questionnaire should take
approximately 10 minutes.
Your answers to the questionnaire will be combined with those of your
peers, and analyzed by the MolySym research team. The collective
results will serve as the basis for our product development effort.
The overall results of the survey will be made available to all who
complete the questionnaire. These results will be without attribution
to individuals. Please be assured that all information you enter will
be kept confidential and is for research and information purposes
only.
Thanks for taking the time to complete our short survey. We encourage
you to pass this email on to other chemistry teachers you know. All
chemistry teachers who complete the survey will receive a MolySym
t-shirt as a small token of our appreciation.
Thank you for you support.
