[neact] Intend to renew. From RMcGuane Wellesley Ma. Passing of Dr. R. J. McGuane, DMD, a practical chemist and physicist.

Dear Kathy Siok,

Thank you for continuing to send e-mails for NEACT.

The membership secrectary was considerate in sending
me a ready made renewal form and I do hope and intend
to renew membership in NEACT.

As a courtesy and a practicality, out of consideration
due to a working relationship, it is with sadness that
I write to inform you of the passing of my father, Dr.
R. J. McGuane.

My father was one of the few dentists (the more exact
term is doctor of dental medicine) who was still
practiced in both dental lab work and pharmacology. I
worked with my father for a time, and his dental
surgery units and dental lab were like practical
physics and chemistry labs. My father also did his own
microscope work to inspect cultures before prescribing
antibiotics or other treatment.

As a role model, like many parents in the field of
dental medicine, Dr. McGuane encouraged me to study
math and science, including physics, chemistry, radio,
medicine, health and safety.

I would like to thank NEACT for having provided a
forum for "Chemistry And The Classical Connection."
The traditional classical course of professional
training was vital to the training of so many
scientists (upon whose shoulders we stand) and the
construction of a logical system of scientific and
medical terminology which still serves us very well
today.

Sincerely,

Robert McGuane, Jr.
