The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education Institute
presents:
Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 4 PM
Hasbrouck Lab, Room 138, University of Massachusetts Amherst
"Insights from a 17-Year Longitudinal Study of Change in Science Teachers'
Knowledge of Science"
Hanna J. Arzi
Science Education, Independent Researcher-Consultant, Tel Aviv, Israel
A lot has been said on teacher knowledge and on what is desirable. The
research base varies across the different pedagogical and subject-matter
knowledge categories and is particularly limited in regard to secondary

acronym CK, Content Knowledge). The seminar will overview a longitudinal
study, carried out in Australia, on change in secondary science teachersí
knowledge of science, from pre-service training until 17 years later. The
presentation will attend to some findings and their implications.
The program begins at 4 PM; refreshments at 3:45 PM.
Parking available at the Campus Center Garage.
For more information, contact STEM Ed Institute at 545-0453
Next talk: April 15, 2008, Mark Tuominen, Dept. of Physics, University of
Massachusetts, Co-Director, Center for Hierarchical Manufacturing,
"Nanoscience Education: New Approaches to a New Subject"
