Dear Science Education Advocate,
My name is Jessica Halloran and I work for the Amgen Foundation. As
you may know, Amgen has a program that recognizes leadership and
innovation in science teaching for K-12 instructors. Winners of our
program receive a $5,000 unrestricted award and their schools
receive a $5,000 grant to further science-related education. It's a
small way to thank science educators for furthering science in the
classroom.
Amgen is expanding its program this year, and will honor a total of
34 teachers in California, Colorado, Kentucky,Massachusetts, Puerto
Rico, Rhode Island, Washington and Canada (Alberta, British
Columbia, Ontario and Quebec). More information and a new
streamlined web-based application is available on the Amgen website
at:http://www.amgen.com/citizenship/aaste.html
Although we have received excellent nominations from educators in
the past, I don't believe this program is well known. I would
appreciate your help again this year in getting the word out to
science teachers who may be interested in applying.
The deadline for nominations is February 2, 2009.
To be eligible, nominees must:
* Be full-time, K-12 classroom teachers whose major
responsibilities include teaching science
* Have at least three years of experience teaching science in
grades K-12
* Work in communities where Amgen has key operating sites:
California, Colorado, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Washington, Puerto Rico and Canada (Alberta, British Columbia,
Ontario and Quebec)
Best,
Jessica Halloran
