Boston University Upward Bound Math Science and Upward Bound
Spring 2009
Program Description: The <http://www.bu.edu/ub>Upward Bound and
<http://www.bu.edu/ubms>Upward Bound Math Science programs at Boston
University serve over 100 inner city Boston Public High School and
Chelsea Public High School students by providing academic
instruction, math and science enrichment activities, tutoring,
social enrichment and personal support. Students participate in both
a six-week summer residential program and an after school component.
Position Available: One MCAS Physics test prep instructor and one
MCAS Biology test prep instructor for after school program
Description: Instructors are responsible for teaching one 1 hour and
50 minute section of MCAS Physics or MCAS Biology Test Prep, which
will be held on a to be determined weekday from 4:00 to 4:45 during
the spring program. A maximum of 15 students will be enrolled in
each class. Course material will focus on test taking techniques,
practice tests, and reinforcing content area knowledge. The Test
Prep instructor is expected to develop and implement course
curriculum, and provide written evaluations of students' performance
(midterm and final). The position is part time. Program dates are
January 20th - May 21st 2009.
Educational
Requirements: Minimum Bachelors degree (Masters preferable) in
Education, Physics or Biology with certification or teaching
experience in appropriate content area.
Required
Experience: Minimum two years teaching experience. Applicants must
possess an understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth and
creativity to respond to student learning needs with innovative
ideas and approaches without compromising course content. Excellent
interpersonal skills a must.
Salary: $22 an hour plus prep-time.
