I am headed here also. The Monster is ready for action, even if it only shows 3.6GB RAM available to the OS. It will have to do.

Just gave one final try at Suse 10.1 because sources say that VMWare runs better on it. Ran up against the same broken update problem, and researched it heavily this time, only to find that most others have even harsher words to describe it than I did, and that the prescribed fixes don't work.

Loading Ubuntu server now.

ReactOS, http://www.reactos.org, is a new operating system with an
interesting twist. Their prime goal is to create an open-source
Windows. For those times when an application is needed but will not
run under Wine, ReactOS is working on becoming binary-compatible with
current Windows applications...

I have not had the opportunity to play with it, but from the screen
shots on the web site, it looks very promising.

It gives me an excuse to set up VMWare server and play around with it locally.

This support has been around for a long time. I've used it to run DOS
executables a long time ago...
It's a nice feature, but don't expect too much from it, there are just
too many Windows executables that won't/can't run under WINE.
The only sure fire way to get complete support for Windows executables
is to sue VMWare. Rob and I talked last night after the meeting and we
mentioned that there is a project to create a binary compatible Open
Source alternative to Windows. Rob, can you tell us more?

Chuck

For years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.
