[nanomsg] Current status of the project

Hello

I think this nanomsg is a very interesting project but I see on the website
that the project is in alpha phase. What does this exactly mean and is
there any view on when the project will be ready for production use?

I would be mainly interested to use it on a Linux system from the context
of a C application to communicate with other C applications.
