Hi Massy1
Both the ways, that you suggest are possible, but both of them are awkward.
I read it and I finally understood what you menat, there abouts. It might be
nice to have something like it at some point, basically a way to set a klg
controllers parameters in several steps. But klg requires a lot of
fore-thought or reconfiguration, stopping the engine and starting it back up
again.
Another alternative could be -km, the MIDI controller. Much more intuitive.
The drawback at the moment: We haven't yet explored the MIDI parts. Setting up
a MIDI controller is easy. Storing it and sync'ing it to Ecasound, even
there-abouts, poses a few problems, since it will involve midish or sme other
MIDI tool. There are lots of things, which one can use as MIDI controllers.
I've heard, that there are drivers for graphic tablets and of course nowadays
you will find lots of small gadgets, which connect via MIDI or USB and are
Linux compatible, which will perform the task.
Trying to look at it from an implementation point of view: I'd vote for
using klg raw for now and stabilising, what we have and see, that Nama gets a
Debian package for the next release, so we might get some more exposure
overall, which would be more than well-deserving, of what Joel has done. And
then we come back to it. Still, it's always good of starting a discussion and
pondering the options, maybe we could find even more options than km and klg.
and maybe we can come up with other clever ideas to manage automation. There
are certainly constraints to keep in mind. There would always be the question
of:
1. What to do, when the user tries to manipulate the controlled parameter?
1.1 Could we bind it to the min/max values or start value of the controller,
if it has such things?
2. Which feature of Ecasound to use (controller or direct cop-set)?
2.1 That implies: Which technology to use in Nama, feeding Ecasound or
actively manipulating Ecasound in RT?
And I'm sure there are more than that. OK, I'm going back to do some
recording. :-)
Bassily yours
Julien
