Hi Doug:

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. No advice here. I did something
similar this week when my backup drive got too full, along with my
main drive. I searched for duplicates and found that my Application
folder not only had all the applications, but a separate 'Application'
folder. When I opened that folder, I saw all the applications PLUS a
separate/another 'Application' folder. And on an on it went with
nested Application folders - like looking into a mirror while holding
a mirror and seeing yourself holding a mirror with an image of you
holding a mirror - you get the picture.

I rationalized that this had to be the cause for filling up the drives
and began deleting the nested folders and similar to your reaction
discovered that I had no applications left. That included the Mail and
web browsing apps. I've begun reinstalling the OS and apps now. Many
are older apps that require upgrading downloads to get to the later
versions.

As they say, I feel your pain. Wanna go for a beer or 6?
