Yep, you can get it from Apple as a free download. If you don't have a high
speed web connection, see if you can get the updates from someone on CD-R
(combined they're over 100 MB). IIRC you first need to update the system to
9.1 and then to 9.2.1 and then 9.2.2 (but I'm not entirely sure about the
update sequence. If you use the software update control panel you can
possibly do it automatically that way.

Deleting the sound preferences consistently fixed the problem IIRC.
