Curt,

Acrobat Professional 6 has very powerful indexing, cataloguing, and
searching features.

You can tell Acrobat to build an index of all the text found in all the pdf
files inside a given folder.  Then you do a Find, and use that index as the
target of your search.  It can pick up embedded text, user keywords, and
document metadata.
