What "restoration tricks" have you tried?

It appears that you have either a corrupt Finder preference file (if 
yer lucky) or a corrupt Finder, (not so easy to fix).

I would start by doing a routine First Aid check of your disk. Then 
toss your Finder pref file and restart. If problem isn't solved, you 
will have to replace your Finder with a fresh copy from your OS 
install CD.

BTW, what version of OS 9 are you using?
