[muglo] Re: reading documents

Thanks Martin ... something is still fishy ...

I got one attachment from this person opened and translated into an
AppleWorks doc. She told me it was a Word file and I opened and saved it
(before downloading Appleworks updater).

I am using OS X and just downloaded Appleworks 6.2.4 updater.

Tried to open the file entitled Cherryhill Application Letter.w that I was
told was in word and still could not.

I was actually looking for a translator like icword (but I had forgotten the
name) or somesuch that would translate to Appleworks.

How does MacLink Plus work? Is it downloadable and if so what is the cost.

I was under the mistaken impression that Appleworks was ready to translate
from other Word Processing applications ... not yet I guess.

a few comments to your reply as well.

In the Open dialog navigate to where you detached your file. Beside the "All

Types" drop down menu there is another drop down menu. From it select "All
Available". Your word file should show up in the list of available files.
Highlight it and select open. If the file is not too complicated AW should
translate it for you. Or see below. Using OS X and Appleworks 6.2.4 I got an
empty page on one try and gobbledygook on another try. I am not a
programmerand don't recognize the symbols and what ever ... please pardon my
use of gobbledygook but that is what it seemed like to me.

You will need a 3 rd party program like MacLink Plus to open it. Or see
belowWill check this out thanks ... any assistance on this would be
appreciated.

Ask you friend to open the file, click anywhere in the file copy it (control

key and A key), go back to the e-mail program and paste (control key plus V
key) it into the message and paste Would be a little easier if it were a
friend. This is a letter I need from The Arthritis Society so that I can
copy it to request space to run a volunteer program.

I think I better go up the the Mount and get a hard copy or else ask if I
cansend it from her machine to my e-mail address rather than try to ask her
by e-mail again to send it. >
