Is your printer plugged into a power bar?  If so, did you make sure 
the power bar was actually turned on?  In other words, it may be 
plugged in, but perhaps the on/off switch is in the off setting for 
some reason.

As an aside, I heard about 11 years ago (don't know it's still true) 
that you shouldn't plug your printer into a UPS (unlimited power 
supply) power bar because it can cause problems with the printer's 
sleep function.  I have my CPU, etc.,  in the UPS and my printer in a 
separate, non-UPS power bar.

I would check the printer manual, if you still have it.  If not, it's 
likely still available on the HP website.  If you unplug it and then 
plug it back in, or press a reset switch, that could correct the 
problem.  However, I'd check the manual to be sure.
