thanks this is good advice. Seems to work only with a few of the 
images... but I guess I can manually switch them. Maybe if I leave 
them as .jpg iphoto will recognize them

long story. basically, VPC cant only see my usb devices in X, but 
cannot actually use them. 9 works fine
