[muglo] Re: palm pilot

Jim:

I was in my previous life, I was the European product marketing manager for
HP's handhelds (or PDAs Personal Digital Assistant) so I do know a bit about
them.

If your wife is ONLY using the device for her schedule and contacts (and
that's how 90% of the world uses them) then anything will do, but I would
not but anything that does not have a fast, easy way to do back-ups (I would
only buy something that uses a mini PCMCIA flash disk). Most of the new
products do not have changeable batteries in favour of LiON (lithium Ion)
rechargeable sets.

The only issue is compatibility. If your wife will only be sync-ing with a
Mac then Palm is fine. If her other colleagues will want to share info
(zapping a meeting or contact info via IRDA or Bluetooth), then it's a big
issue as there is little (i.e. Zero) compatibility between Palm and PC. If
she works in the PC world, then I would not go Palm. In either case a full
blown Palm or Windows PDA, in colour will cost between 750 and 850, price is
fairly evenly matched across the board.

As for Sony's built-in camera, get used to it, hard to find a PDA or cell
phone these days that doesn't have it.

Garth.
