Are you using a Mac or Windows computer?

Outlook is a Windows application.

Outlook Express is the OS 9 version, MS Entourage is the commercial version 
that comes with Office 2001 (OS 9) and X (OS X).

As for what is a filter - it restricts what you see on the screen. In 
Entourage you can apply a filter very easily to a mailbox. There's a text 
field at the top-right of the window where you can type. Whatever is typed 
in that box limits what is seen in the window (like a search). If you're 
looking for all e-mail addresses with muglo in them you'd type muglo in that 
field to see only muglo for example.
