I would suggest after the memory upgrade clean installing 9.2 
(and all the programs too! - I know its a pain!!) which should 
run without difficulty and will likely solve your photo problems. 
How full is your hard drive? Sounds like you may have a 4 or 6 
Gig drive and it might be getting rather full which might be 
leading to some Virtual Memory problems.
