Hi All,
Thought I should include my input here, since I am currently
'president' and see my name has been mentioned.
First, no hard feelings from me.
For the past few years (5?) I have served as president, but that has
mostly been for website/contact info. During this time I have been in
contact with members online, with Paul and Tee personally and at our
informal meetings.
At the time I put my name in the group was 'small' and Apple was just
getting out of some tough times with the original iMac. So, there
wasn't really much to do physically, and MUGLO needed someone.
As Tee has mentioned it was a tough go getting people out for meetings
and Paul's experience with SIG's interest was moderate.
At one time User Group's were huge! David Pouge used to write a
section on the back page of Macworld and did an article about User
Groups. At that time the Internet was just taking off and he found
that sine most members were starting to communicate online, User Group
meetings were dropping off.
I think this was the same MUGLO expierenced, hearing older members remember.
Anyway, I still read the MUGLO emails and occasionally participate;
used to do a lot more (go back and read the archives if interested).
Not as much anymore for two reasons:
- my knowledge of the Mac and all that with it is at a point where I
don't need as much help; questions are more program specific and find
the answers through trial and error and elsewhere on the Internet.
- I would like to help others more but my personal life doesn't always
allow it. In the past year and half I have separated and divorced,
moved twice, work a full-time and part-time jobs, have my boys over
and play hockey and golf (to stay sane :)).
Apple has really done well for itself with the iPod and iLife programs
(Mac's at Staples? Never thought I would see it!). There are lots of
people who need help and just as many willing to give it, so I just
stay in the background. I help many new Mac users set systems up and
get them over from Windows (on my own time and dime too).
So, if anyone else who would like to be president, I would gladly
relinquish my role and pass the torch on.
Tim
