[muglo] no coup intended

I apologize to Tim Kearn, Tee Cashmore and Doug Rogers, as well as anyone else
to whom I may have given the impression that in organizing a meeting for next
Thursday I was criticizing the group's executive, its format or its previous
meetings. I had no such intention.
Had a meeting been called at the Westmount library branch, I would cheerfully
have gone. If future meetings are called there, I mean to attend. In organizing
one myself, though, I thought a more central location would be most accessible
to the most members. I don't doubt the Westmount branch's amenities, but it's
been widely denounced as being distant and difficult to reach.

I have no objection whatever to the online format, given that the constitution
also provides for direct gatherings being called from time to time. I do think
three months is about as long as we ought to go between such meetings. E-mail
is invaluable, but so is personal contact. I have yet to meet any of the
members except Jim Taylor, a longtime colleague, and Ilbert Walker, whom I
remember from early MUGLO meetings longer ago than either of us probably likes
to admit.

There's obviously a lot of enthusiasm and expertise in this group and I'm
anxious to meet it -- people like Tee, who clearly carries a major share of the
(no doubt congenial) burden of keeping the group energized, and like Scott,
whose depth of technical knowledge is obviously going to be a major benefit to
us all. That's all my calling of this meeting is about. I'm not launching a
palace coup. I hope Tim and Tee and Doug will all be there in their usual
capacities.

I don't see the objection to my comment about the number of people responding
to nominations. Ted Medzon proposed a vote of confidence in the present
executive. Jordan Smith seconded it. The only other vote on the motion was my
own "Aye."

Thursday meeting, I think you could refrain from dissing the existing
exec & format.
I mentioned Westmount Library as the preferred Muglo location as we
get Free space there & they have all the latest Techie equipment.
We went from 100+ members out to meetings down to 20 at best, a few
5-6. $150+ was too high a cost so we went Online, approved by all the
70 odd members I might add.
This April we had 21 out.
Your comment about the number of persons who responded to calls for
Nominations was certainly uncalled for. The response was quite
normal, quite typical of the last 10 years. Many members have already
done their stint as Pres. etc.
End of Rant.
Now I hope you get a good turnout on Thursday.
