[muglo] Re: netconnect

I have a cable company for my ISP, and it allows one connection.
My wireless Netgear router uses that connection. Several computers
and a hand held device make connection with the router, and hence throug
it to the internet. Because we live in an apartment, it did not feel
good about drilling holes in the ceiling or walls to string cable
around the apartment, so I am connecting one iMac to the router
via the wireless connection. The other desktop is connected via
a short ethernet cable. No matter what brand of computer you have,
or operating system, if it has a wireless card or it has an ethernet
connector, you can connect to the router. My laptop has OS 10 and
that makes it really easy to change locations. When I go to a meeting
in which we all have connection to each other and to the net, I just
use "Automatic", say which I am using, either wireless or ethernet, and
then set "Configure IPv4" to DHCP. After clicking "Apply now", the
router generates an IP number for me, and "bingo", I am connected.

It is easy, but maybe not trivial the first time. However, the number
of permutations and combinations is not that large, and it seems that
one can do no harm by trying them, as long as you stick to the range
of numbers suggested by your router manufacturer.
