[muglo] Re: net etiquette

Hi Garth

True, we do, of course, use the term "capitals" probably because in the
past people called them that because they started the names of country
main cities. Capitals, with a capital letter like, London (my theory).
However the correct term is Upper Case which goes back to the time when
newspaper print was set up manually by a typesetter who kept the
individual character type pieces in two cases - one above the other.
The Upper case contained all the Capitals and were therefore called
Upper Case characters whilst the regular characters were in the Lower
Case and were therefore called Lower Case characters!!! No doubt the
upper case was above the lower case because more use would be made of
those characters!!

This has nothing to do with Mac computers as such so I have marked it
as [OT] but as Garth implied the question and as I started the matter,
I thought the least I could do was to offer an explanation!! Thanks
for your time if you bothered to read this!!
