I don't have any & if I did I would simply make a copy of the software.

I said Programmes, not Operating systems & I do copy that about once
a month. BTW MacWorld recommends the type of system I use.
As to the rest of your comments/concerns I've never had a problem in
23 years. I use Photoshop Elements 4, iPhoto, iWeb, Photo Booth.
Appleworks, Toast 6, Skype, Safari, Mail, iTunes very occasionally, &
3 Games. While writing this Scott reminded me that because I have
a .Mac account I also have a complete backup there.
