Time Machine is not supposed to overwrite as this would only give you
a single backup. It will keep on adding backups until the drive is
full at which point it will ask permission to delete the oldest
backup. This feature is what gives your Time machine backup a
'history' so that you recover a file deleted days or weeks ago.
