before you put it to the curb, black smudges are usually caused by the
toner cartridge being very old and not cleaning proper, or the heating
assembly is scratched. thats a sight unseen, usual there is a simple
solution. The main point, it still works.
place it in Goodwill! instead of the curb. There are a LOT of old PC out
there.
