[muglo] Re: more pc monitor trouble on mac

Ok, Alex, questions for you:
(1) What version of the OS are you using;
(2) Do you have a manual to go with your adapter;
(3) What brand of adapter is it;
(4) Do you have a manual to go with your monitor;
(5) What 7300 is it (166, 180, 200);
(6) and, What monitor were you using before?

The flatpanel display will absopositively work with _any_ Mac that can
output the signals it can sync to (right from the Mac II through to the PM
G4 DP/800). The adapter annoyance is where you can thank Apple for being a
proprietary bunch of SOBs (really big fault of Apple with pre-B&W G3s was
their use of the "Apple" DB-15 video port as opposed to the industry
standard SVGA (they were the same damned monitors, why did they need their
own connector???)).

First suggestion: hop on the web and search for the manufacturer of your
adapter (that is, if you don't have the manual for it). They'll have the
meaning of the DIP switches on-line.

Second: set the adapter for a generic VGA monitor and then hold down the
control key while clicking on the resolutions setting in the control strip
(or show all resolutions in the monitors control panel... of course, this
assumes you're pre-OS 9.1).

Thirdly: get a control panel like SuperRes which will allow you to force
your video card to output anything.

Forth: check your manual for the flat panel that tells you what resolutions
+ refresh rates it supports.

Note on the VRAM: Your monitor will work fine on 2 MB RAM at max resolution.
VRAM won't affect refresh rate -- it'll only affect bit depth!

With 2 MB you should be able to drive at least 1280*1024 at 8 bit and your
15" flat panel will only go to 1024*768 (16 bit colour)!!!
