I guess if you want lots and lots of real-estate. I had my 1024x768 laptop +
an external 1152x864 (or whatever) and found that was more than enough. I
think I'd be happiest with a 1280x1024 laptop screen but that requires a
rather large laptop (or, else it requires Apple to use higher screen
resolutions and increase font sizes proportional to the resolution of the
screen... I'm happy with font sizes on my 14" 1024x768 but would like more
room for other stuff like extra windows WITHOUT having a larger laptop... I
guess it's impossible. I want a larger screen but I don't want a larger
laptop).

If you *really* don't like LCDs on laptops then a desktop LCD isn't for you.
But, if you dislike is only minor, I suggest that you will be able to get
used to the LCD quite easily. They're not good for far-sighted people (since
you lower the screen dimensions) but for near-sighted (who usually wear
their glasses all the time anyway) or normal-sighted people they're
excellent (I find laptops easier on the eyes).
Eric.
