Before the days of free high speed in most hotels I used dial up quite
frequently, I had a AT&T Global account for just that purpose it had local
connection numbers from just about anywhere in North America and cost $10 a
month for 10 hours. I never experienced not being able to connect other than
in places with very old telephone systems and then it was not unique to me as
others were at the front desk making the same inquiries.
