iPhoto has an option to export - see the icons at the bottom right of
the iPhoto window? - to Mail. Select the photos you want to send and
click the icon. If the photo's you want to send are not in iPhoto,
then in Mail, click the paper clip icon and find the photo's wherever
you have stored them.

Nope. You are just adding a layer of complexity to wrap them all
together, and making one large file rather than a number of smaller
ones. The format of the image: tiff, jpeg, png stays the same. You're
just creating a document, the PDF - to hold them.
Keep in mind that there is a fairly common standard limit on the size
of email messages and attachments. A message too large will gget
bounced.
If you have a bunch of pictures to send, open an account with Picassa
or Flikr. These can be private. Upload your pictures there and send
your recipients a URL. This has the added advantage of radically lower
bandwidth usage.
