Do a Google and I'm sure you'll find your answer out there in the ether (not
the answer you were looking for ;P.
I seem to remember something about iTunes not supporting a USB<->iPod
connection on Macs. You can still use it as a drive... you just can't sych
it with your iTunes collection.
