Thanks to Eric, Alex and Eurogarth for questions and suggestions.
Answers to questions:
1. The Command, Option and I Key trick is discussed in
"Troubleshooting a CD-ROM...that doesn't appear on the desktop",
Apple Article ID 58382. If you use this trick, the computer "will
try to make the disc available on the desktop as an ISO formatted
disc instead of a UDF formatted disc".
2. I'm using the original iBook, Blueberry.
3. I'm using a LaCie 4x4x32x CD-RW USB, purchased two years ago.
I am using it with a USB PCI card in the 7300. I had quite a bit of
trouble with the burner sometimes and sometimes not being recognized,
but for some reason since I have done a find by content, the problem
has gone away (fingers crossed).
4. I am using Kodak CD-R Ultima 80, 700 MB, CD's.
5. Yes, Alex, trying Mac OS Extended is an option to consider.
6. Yes Eric, I will check out the iBook LowEndMac's iBook support forum.
I hope it isn't a hardware problem, but if it persists, I guess I'll
have to take that into consideration.
If anyone knows how I could install just the CD driver, just in case
it may be software related, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I
looked for a separate CD driver installer on the OS 9 installation
disks, but couldn't find it. The suggestion of updating the CD
driver was made in that same Apple Article 58382.
