I have had a strange effect (at least to me) that perhaps someone can
explain!!
This refers to the small icon at the top right of the screen which I
understand indicates the stat of the battery (or at least the power
situation) in terms of the time left before recharging is necessary
given as hrs:mins?
Yesterday I had just started up with the power module connected to the
iBook and the power main on the wall. After a short time on (perhaps 5
mins) the screen went black and I could nothing to get it back on
again!
I finally got it back by unplugging the power supply cable to the
iBook, powering off using the power on button. I then noticed that the
power indicator icon showed about 8:00 98 hours); this then fairly
quickly dropped to about 4:00 when it stabilised!
I then tried some testing!!
At this stage the power cord was still disconnected - running on the
battery only.
The time showed 4:19 and hardly changed
I then plugged in the power supply and the icon changed to (calculating
... ) and afterwards the time dropped fairly quickly thus
4:15
2:52
1:55
1:25 in a total time of about 3 mins - I was not using the computer
during this period - just displaying a window and it's contents
During the next minute or so it further dropped to
1:10
0:55
.
.
I then unplugged the power again (at the power module) and got another
(calculating ... ) message followed by times
8:10
7:00
5:55
5:31
4:58
5:00
4:51
.
.
over a period of about 2 mins!
It would appear therefore as I understand these numbers that it is
better to run the iBook without the power connection which seems
strange to me!! I assumed that it was better to have the power
connected when using the iBook or am I misunderstanding the meaning of
this icon?
Or does it mean I have a faulty battery or power module?
Any help would be appreciated
Paul
