Honestly I never use the Help program unless some program opens it  
for me. Always found it to be tediously slow and otherwise wonky.

If it opens then goes away, it is graciously crashing. Doesn't do  
that here. You say it started just the other day? You actually  
accessed it successfully before? I'm impressed.

Have you run Disk Utility and tried Repair Permissions?

Otherwise I suggest making an alias to the top level Help index file  
that you do Find and leaving it on the desktop.

  There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.
