[muglo] Re: font frustration

I would have to respectfully disagree.

I have found Quicklook and coverflow alone to be worth the price of
upgrade. As a student, it is so efficient to be able to look through a
semester's worth of lecture slides by just using Quicklook and never
having to wait for Powerpoint to open. As well, as a video editor, I
have found the ability to quickly preview clips and sound files on the
desktop a handy speed booster. When I had to go back and finish a
project on an older machine I found myself tapping the space bar to
listen to a music file and wondering why it wouldn't work before I
remembered I was working on Tiger.

As well, a new feature I have just noticed in the past couple of days
is a new "File Open" pane. On the sidebar along with your normal
folders and drive list there is a media section for movies, photos,
and music which uses the normal iLife media selection tool. In Tiger,
if I wanted to upload a photo to a website, I would have to go into
iPhoto, export a picture to the desktop, and then select it using the
website, all because iPhoto stores all photos in its own order. Now,
the file selection window gives me full access to all of the photo
library with previews (not just file names) along with a full list of
all albums I have created.

These are just two features that I have found indispensable so far,
not to mention the increased speed of Spotlight, greater security
features, and yes, the pretty (but not often needed, I mainly use it
for fun.) Time Machine.

Hope this info helps a few people who may be on the fence. I wouldn't
recommend putting Leopard on anything older than two years but if you
have a capable machine I wouldn't be afraid of the upgrade.
