I'm positive that the Laser is cheaper by a wide margin.
Toner costs from $50-120 & lasts usually 3,000- 10,000 copies.
Inks for Ink jet cost from $40-80 & last about 300-1,000 copies.
Initial purchase costs can be quite high for a Laser anything, but  
running costs are much less than the cheaper Ink Jets.
BTW Faxing, or I should say Fax machines, are going the way of the  
Dodo bird, almost every computer these days can be used to fax via  
the internet.
