As someone who does this type of work for clients, the ad agencies including
Canada Post make it cheap to do mass mailing and emailing. The databases are
rarely updated or cleansed as it costs money. Now that the Do Not Call
legislation has kicked in you can expect more of this. Soon they will catch
on to SMS and send text messages to your cell phone. Only the ad agencies,
printers and the paper companies benefit. The best defense is to put the
junk mail back in the mailbox marked return to sender. If we all did this it
may stop. It will also reduce paper recycling.
