[muglo] Re: deleting Time Capsule files

Sorry, guys, but there's something missing. The immediate problem is that my
toolbar doesn't have the gear icon you mention.

Barry says "while navigating Time Machine, go to the present view, and click
the little gear icon in the toolbar of the Finder." I take it that "the present
view" means the view in which the Time Capsule icon appears as simply another
navigable volume on the desktop, the view arrived at after switching out of the
Starwars-effect that shows multiple hard-drive windows receding into infinity.
But in this view, the Finder toolbar has no gear icon. It has, from left to
right, the Apple menu, the Finder, File, Edit, View, Go, Window and Help menus,
menus for StuffIt, Caffeine, Fax, Time Machine, fax preferences, Airport,
battery use and volume control, time and date, language controls with Character
Palette and Keyboard Viewer, Bluetooth, user name and Spotlight. No gear icon.

Jason says to be in Time Machineâ??s â??Spaceâ?? view (which I take to be the
one with the receding hard-drive windows), then navigate in the Finder window
to the file I want to delete. But in this view, thereâ??s not only no gear icon
in the toolbar, thereâ??s no toolbar at all. Black â??spaceâ?? extends clear to
the top of the screen. The only controls available are on the bar at the bottom
which offers the options to cancel or restore from a selected backup date.

Pressing the question-mark info button in Time Machine Preferences does bring
up a generic Mac Help window entitled â??Using Time Machine preferencesâ?? and
that window does indeed have a gear icon, although pressing that icon in turn
brings you nothing more than options to change type size and search within the
help window, or to print its contents.

Pressing the Options button in Time Machine Preferences brings up the window
Barry is talking about in reference to preventing future backups of specific
files, and that windowâ??s info button too brings up the same Help window with
the same useless gear icon.

But no gear icons in any Finder window. It sounds as if Time Machineâ??s
â??giving me the gearsâ?? by not giving me the gears.

Any further ideas ?
