Question for you: what do you mean with it wasn't an USB cable? Was it an 
USB cable but it just happened to be the wrong type (though, I can't imagine 
what they'd be), or did you have an alternate way to hook it up to your Mac 
that would allow OS 9 to print but not OS X? (i.e. dual RS232/USB printer)

PS Is your computer a Beige G3 or something newer?
