I'm 100% confused now.
I've never heard of a USB - parallel *cable*. Adapters exist but you need
special software to use them and only the very first of the printers came
with these cables (b/c they hadn't got around to making them USB-compatible
yet). And, usually this is only relevant to Windows computers since Macs
have never been parallel friendly.
Did you get this USB - parallel adapter with the printer?
I'm really curious now as to how you ended up with a USB - parallel adapter.
