What he is suggesting is that you find where on your hard drive
the alias is supposed to point to that is the actual physical
location on your hard drive. The "nav" refers to the navigation
dialogue windows similar to when you are saving a file - the
window that pops up and lets you name the file and save wherever
you want by navigating through the folders, hard drives etc. that
are recognized by your system.
Try this instead. Drag the broken alias to the trash can. Do a
command-F (or Find) this gets you into Sherlock the apple find
program. Find the name of the program, file folder, or file that
you want an alias for. Sherlock will display a list of all the
items it finds with the name you typed in.
When you click on one of the names it will tell you where on your
hard drive it is. When you have the one you want, remember where
it is e.g. Your Hard Drive Name/ Applications (MacOS9) /
Programs/ Name Of The Program You Want / Name Of The File You Want.
Now you have to navigate there and when you get there click just
once on the program icon, file folder or the file you want an
alias for then press command-M to "make" and alias. Drag the
alias onto your desktop or wherever you keep them.
Does that help?
