[muglo] Upgrading OS X 10.3.0

I currently have OS X (10.3.0) on my iBook and wish to upgrade it to 10.3.9.
I downloaded the 10.3.9 Update file from Apple onto my eMac and then 
transferred it to the iBook; I then tried to use it to do the upgrade. I was 
given a message to say it couldn't be done!  I then found, with some difficulty 
the series of updates 10.3.1, 10.3.2, .... 10.3.8 which I have now downloaded!  
Am I correct in assuming that I will have to do each of the updates through to 
10.3.9? 


Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
