I would suggest buying a USB drive they are cheaper and seem as fast/
reliable as Firewire in day to day use. I bought a 500 GB one at Best
Buy for around $150, they had small USB drives that required no
external power supply and had between 120 and 160 gb for about the
same price. Those drives are great if you need portability but if
they are for staying in one place I would choose one with an external
powered drive they are faster and more reliable and as Tee said easier
on the computer's power supply. I use my iPod if I need a portable
drive otherwise I have a few firewire drives and one USB drive on my
desk.
If I was you I would buy a bigger than 120 gb drive, it is surprising
how quickly they fill up. I have 80, 160 and 250 LaCie firewire
drives on my desk all are about 80% full, I use to be into video
editing, and then I have the 500 gb usb connected to my airport.

Hi
I am looking at getting a portable 120g HD and partition it 80g for
Time Machine and the rest 40g for DMG file and such. With Time Machine
will it do a full restore from the Boot disk and a USB drive or will
it have to be a Firewire Drive. What would be faster in the long haul?
P.S. any suggestions on an HD Unit I want one the will only need the
cable no extra power supply..
Thank You
